ramy brooks under fire

ramy brooks is in the hot seat. poor guy. now dont' get me wrong--i don't agree with the way he treated his sled dogs in the iditarod, but i don't agree with all the negative media attention he's getting either.

i haven't heard all the details yet, and what has been said thus far is all heresay, but i think the media is definitely overreacting on this issue. from his actions, ramy brooks has since been disqualified from the greatest race on the planet, lost over $20,000 in prize money, peta is all over him, and getting shit-on by the public and other media. the media bastards even have the nerve to REPORT ON and question his sponsorships--who's still backing him up and who has yet to drop him.

don't you think mr. brooks has gotten enough? there are too many anal-retentive, got-nothin-better-to-do city people throwing hissy fits and taking offense. fuck, let go, let him be. he's had enough.

Breastmilk is da best!

March is National Nutrition Month. I thought i'd share some great info. on breastmilk. love those aamaqs! love those miluks! love those breasts!

jc

"Human breast milk is easily digested because the ingredients have been perfected by nature. Human milk contains at least 100 ingredients not found in formula, according to NWHIC. In addition, a baby won't be allergic to their mother's milk. Mother's milk is also sterile, so contamination from polluted water or dirty bottles is never passed on to the baby.

Breast milk composition also changes throughout the day and as a baby grows. For example, a mother with a premature infant has different milk, more suited for her child's unique needs, than a woman who gives birth to a full-term baby. Formula can never reproduce this made-to-order quality of mother's milk."

you can also get more information on breastmilk and its benefits for baby, mother, and society at: http://www.womenshealth.gov/breastfeeding/index.cfm?page=227

my son coltrane aamaq-ed until he was two years old. right now, thank God, he's a healthy, smart baby boy. biggest and handsomest boy now. so, feed your baby breastmilk today! drink breastmilk yourself. love those aamaqs!

Sexually Transmitted Diseases: HIV and AIDS

Here are some cold, hard, facts....

ALASKA: from the State of Alaska Epidemiology Section:

The state Epidemiology Section has a record of HIV infections and deaths since 1982. In the early years, for every two people who got the disease, one person died.

*40 to 55 new HIV cases are still diagnosed annually here--but only a handful of people with HIV die.
*In 2005, no one infected with the virus died in Alaska, the report says, although the death count was back up to six last year. Still, that's many fewer than the 20 to 39 who died annually from 1985 to 1995.

*HIV, standing for human immunodeficiency virus, is the virus that leads to AIDS, which is fatal.
*HIV is pandemic across the globe--The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported in 2006 that 25 million people have died so far.

*Alaska has a low rate of infection compared to many places in the U.S.

*48%, nearly half the Alaska cases, are among men exposed by having sex with other men.
*14% are from injection drug users.
*7% are men who fit in both categories.
*14% are through heterosexual contact.
*A few cases have been passed on to babies by mothers or are from blood transfusions or transplants.

*Since 1982, 1,145 Alaska HIV cases have been diagnosed, of which 370 people with HIV have died.

fashion tips of the day

1. buy flat-front khakis/chinos. alot of people make the mistake of buying pleated ones, which are tacky. flat-front khakis are cool; they're timeless.

2. skulls are in. so are pistols. they make for good belt buckles or t-shirt designs. i have a skull and cross-bones belt. the big ass cowboy pimp kind.

3. make sure your shoes match your belt. if you're like me, and wear blue jeans 80 percent of the time, buy some nice leather brown shoes. and a brown belt.

4. track suit tops are pimp. i want one! they're sporty and you can wear them up or down.

yup'ik word of the day--angpiaq

angpiaq (UNG-b'iaq): (adj.): very big

Wow, look at that shee fish! So angpiaq! Gee, Paul catches the biggest ones. So ess!

NOTES:
'Angpiaq' is used to describe very big, tangible things, such as mountains, ice cream cones, kids, boobs, zits, and moose.

'Angpiaq' comes from the base word 'ange-,' which means 'big.' angpiaq.
